PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS

Although the off-field problems that hurt the Nittany Lions in 2007 are a thing of the past, the speculation about Joe Paterno's future continues. Penn State's leading rusher Rodney Kinlaw will be leaving, but sophomore running back Evan Royster should do a great job of filling in. With quarterback Anthony Morelli leaving the offense might slow down a little bit. That is not a big problem though because the defense got better with the additions of Michael Mauti, Michael Zordich Jr., D'Anton Lynn, and Michael Yancich.(What is up with Penn State and the name Michael)

Brett Favre Saga

Are you sick and tired of hearing about Brett Favre? Well, I am. Last month when Brett Favre showed interest of once again playing football people began to rejoyce. Why not? One of the greatest quarterbacks of all time was coming back. If we only knew what would come of his "return." Reportedly Brett left a voice mail on the Packer's GM's phone. But the GM happened to be on vacation so the Packers told Brett he would have to wait. The Packers showed some interest in Favre. Favre began to get angry with the Packers and said he wanted out. The Packers offered a backup role to him, which he obviously found insulting. Can you imagine Brett Favre being a backup?!?! The only options that the Packers had left was to trade or release him. They strongly did not want to release him because he could join a NFC team. That team could end up beating the Packers in the long run. Trade. Trade. Trade. Trading Brett Favre was the only option left. Just when we thought everything was going good, the Packers charged the Vikings with tampering charges. The Packers reported they traced the calls on the Packer phone they gave to Favre. But, now there are reports that Favre was not issued a phone from the Packers. Whose lying? Nobody is sure. If the Packers are lying they may have dug themselves and even bigger hole. Is this the greatest or most annoying sports story ever. Now there is a possibility that Favre could be a Buccaneer as soon as Sunday. Also, the Packers might postpone Favre's jersey retirement. Yesterday on 1st and 10 Skip Bayless said this is the greatest sports story ever. I disagree. If the Packers are going to do anything, Favre has to get reinstated.

WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS

Once again Wake Forest is in the hunt for an ACC Championship and BCS bowl berth. Although the Demon Deacons have had two straight winning seasons,(ACC Champs in 06) history is not on their side. Since the ACC was established Wake Forest has never had 3 consecutive winning seasons. If Wake Forest and their 15 returning starters can win a couple of key ACC games they will be in the hunt come the end of the season.

Joe Paterno Bio

Joe Paterno, head coach of Penn State, is one of the greatest coaches of all-time. Joe was born on December 21st, 1926 and lived thru the great depression. He attended Brown University where he played and studied football. At cornerback he tied the record for career interceptions, 14. Not only did he play cornerback, he played quarterback. Throughout his coaching career he has given us his input on several college football issues. Some of his beliefs are: creating some type of college football playoff system, redshirt all true freshman, and put an end to legalized college sports gambling. In politics Joe is a conservative. Also, he was close Friends with the former president George H.W. Bush. In February 2008 he donated money to Barrack Obama's campaign. Throughout Paterno's coaching career he was 372-125-3. In bowl games he was 23-10-1. Two NCAA Championships were won by him, one in 1982 and one in 1986. He also led Penn State to two Big Ten titles. Lastly, he has won all of the following awards: (1972) Walter Camp Coach of the Year, (1978) Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, (1981) Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year, (1982) Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, (1986) SI Sportsman of the Year, (1986) Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, (1986) Paul "Bear" Bryant Award, (1994) Walter Camp Coach of the Year, (2002) Amos Alonzo Stagg Award, (2005) Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year, (2005) The Home Depot Coach of the Year, (2005) Walter Camp Coach of the Year.

FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS

Overall, the bulldogs have a fairly easy schedule. Although, their first two games against Rutgers and Wisconsin will be very difficult. Fresno State coach Pat Hill is calling the Wisconsin game the biggest game in Bulldog stadium history. The rest of their games are very winnable, so the bulldogs have a very good chance of going 10-2. This would be an improvement from last year as they went 9-4. Fresno State, which is returning 16 starters from last year, looks poised to unseat Hawaii and Boise State. Do not be surprised if you see the bulldogs in a BCS bowl game.
